ChatGPT Enterprise vs Claude Enterprise for a company on SAP, 2026
Updated 2026-10-22 · ITERACTIVE
As of 22 October 2026. Both OpenAI and Anthropic sell a company-wide assistant with single sign-on, admin controls and a promise not to train on your data. For a company that runs SAP the differences that matter are where the data is processed, how the assistant reaches SAP, what an agent may do, and what the licence actually covers. We implement both and we say which one we would put where. Prices are quote-only at both vendors, so this page compares terms, not list prices.
The comparison
The table uses the vendors' public pages and reporting listed under Sources; the exact terms for your company are in your contract and your workspace settings, and we write them into the data-handling map per component before go-live.
| Question | ChatGPT Enterprise | Claude Enterprise |
|---|---|---|
| Training on your data | Not by default for Business, Enterprise and the API, under OpenAI's business terms | Excluded by default under the enterprise terms; optional zero data retention for the API |
| Identity and admin | SAML SSO, SCIM provisioning, roles and groups, a global admin console, a Compliance API for conversation and GPT audit logs | SSO, role-based permissions, audit logs, custom retention controls, a Compliance API; SCIM support to be confirmed per contract |
| Data residency | Data at rest in the EU and other regions for new Enterprise customers; in-region inference in the US or Europe for eligible customers since January 2026; confirm what your contract includes | No EU residency option on claude.ai as of October 2026; EU processing of Claude exists through Amazon Bedrock EU regions or Google Vertex AI EU regions under your own cloud account, which is a different product than Claude Enterprise |
| Reaching SAP | Custom connectors and MCP servers inside the workspace, with admin control per action; the SAP side is yours or ours to build | MCP connectors in the apps and in Claude Code; our open-source SAP MCP server was built for this route |
| Agents that act | Agents SDK and Responses API for agents you build; workspace agents inside ChatGPT with admin-controlled tools | Claude Code and the Agent SDK for agents you build; the same gates and allowlists we use for SAP apply |
| Developers | Codex, governed rollout with policy, secrets handling and review gates | Claude Code, the same rollout playbook |
| Where the model can also run | Azure OpenAI; OpenAI models on Amazon Bedrock with EU routing since June 2026 | Amazon Bedrock (Frankfurt and other EU regions), Google Vertex AI EU regions |
| Price | Quote only, per seat, not published | Quote only, not published |
| Our default | People already in Microsoft tooling or ChatGPT; document and e-mail work; a company that standardises on Azure | Agents over SAP and long documents; a company that wants the model under its own AWS or Google account in the EU |
The residency question, plainly
If your policy says the model must run under your own cloud account in the EU, neither ChatGPT Enterprise nor Claude Enterprise is the answer on its own: both are vendor-hosted software. The answer is the model on Amazon Bedrock or Google Vertex AI in an EU region, which is available for Claude and, since June 2026, for OpenAI models on Bedrock, plus an assistant layer in front of it. If your policy accepts vendor hosting with EU data residency, ChatGPT Enterprise has a documented residency option and Claude Enterprise does not, as of October 2026. If your policy is about training and retention rather than geography, both vendors' business terms exclude training by default and offer retention controls.
The SAP question
Neither product reads SAP out of the box. Both reach it through connectors you or we build: for Claude through MCP servers, for ChatGPT through custom connectors, which can be MCP servers too. What matters is not the chat window but the layer behind it: a scoped technical account on the SAP side, an allowlist of tools, a person approving every write, an audit line per call, and SAP's answer on licensing for indirect use. That layer is the same whichever assistant sits in front of it, and it is where the six-week pilot spends its time.
Both, in practice
Many companies end up with ChatGPT Enterprise for people and a Claude or OpenAI agent layer for processes, under one identity, one audit trail and one data-handling map. The identity and the audit are the hard part; the choice of assistant is reversible, and we design the layer so that it is.
Questions we get asked
Which one is cheaper?
Neither vendor publishes a price; both quote per seat for Enterprise. Our implementation fee is the same fixed price whichever you choose, and model usage in the agent layer is billed by your own cloud or provider account.
Can ChatGPT Enterprise keep everything in the EU?
Data at rest in Europe is a documented option, and in-region inference for Europe exists for eligible customers since January 2026. Which of the two your contract includes is a question for OpenAI's order form; we write the answer into the data-handling map.
Does Claude Enterprise have EU data residency?
Not as of October 2026. EU processing of Claude is available through Amazon Bedrock and Google Vertex AI under your own account, which is how we deploy Claude for companies with an EU residency policy.
Do either of them train on our prompts?
Not by default under either vendor's business terms. The exact clause, the retention period and the audit access differ by contract and are documented per component.
Which one would you pick for an SAP company?
For agents over SAP: Claude under your own AWS or Google account, with our MCP server. For the people-facing assistant: whichever your people already live in, often ChatGPT Enterprise in Microsoft-standardised companies. We implement both and we do not resell either.
